U Win Tin congratulated for his bravery and commitment to democracy in the face of 19 years of ill-treatment and abuse
On Thursday of this week, the Legislative Council of the NSW Parliament passed the following motion without dissent:
4 HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGNER (Formal Business)
Dr Kaye moved, according to notice: That this House:
a) congratulates democracy and human rights campaigners for embarrassing the Burmese military dictatorship into releasing journalist, Burmese democracy campaigner and political prisoner U Win Tin from 19 years of brutal imprisonment in Insein Prison, Rangoon,
b) applauds U Win Tin for his courageous stand against the Burmese military dictatorship and its systematic violation of human rights,
c) congratulates U Win Tin for his bravery and commitment to democracy in the face of 19 years of ill-treatment and abuse and for his public statement on release that he “will keep fighting until the emergence of democracy in this country”, and
d) calls on the Burmese military dictatorship to release all political prisoners, restore human rights and restore democracy.
